Research Logs, Treasure Map

I hate to admit it, but I’m still very new to genealogical research. As many of you know I’m still in the “find out what you know” stage. I’m posting information on this website that other people know and I’m finding out.

Later this year I plan to start “researching.” Joe at Genealogy Blog linked to Kimberley Powell’s excellent “Research Log = Treasure Map” article at About.com.

When I start actual research, I hope to use this blog as my research log. The blog software (Movable Type) automatically time and date stamps my entry. I’ll include a “research” category with each post. I just need to remember to include the following:

Objective:
Person’s Name:
Description:
Comments/Notes:
Source:
Location/Call Numbers:
Document Number:

The file number for the research log will be the permanent link of the research entry.

I also may want to include:

Ancestor Name:
Born:
Married:
Died:
Gender:
Gedcom URL:
Example: Jean McCall

Is there anything missing? Do you think this will work or not work? Comment below.
